Shadows of Dakaron

The World of Dakaron – a unique fantasy setting that has everything from a creeping desert, a living forest, powerful beings struggling for control behind the scenes, and a variety of races and cultures trying to survive it all.

Tula Radul

Oh, I remember her. She was that pretty little pirate elf girl who would tag along with us, mooning over Uta. I’m pretty sure it wasn’t a romantic deal or anything, though, cuz I did catch her looking my way many times. Aldro said not in the party though. She was good in a fight, someone you could really count on to have your back. I think she went back to pirating or something like that, didn’t she?

Ogden Faithfulrest, when asked by Mala about her mother.

Tula Radul was a good companion. She held her own against our enemies and wasn’t a rat-thief like that Ulric. I did like her, she had potential. It was a shame she was so plebian. But it takes a strong mind to unite the rabble like she did. Good for her. Now we don’t have to worry about the east coast.

Uta Salacious, when she discovered Tula’s role in the Three Cities.

Ah yes, the pirate girl. She was a handful. Very fiesty and vivacious. Had eyes only for the other two. I had to have private talks with all of them about keeping their hands off each other. Not that I got much of that out of Uta. Tula was a good adventurer, always ready to get her hands dirty. I am very proud of where she ended up. I knew she had it in her.

Aldro Shieldcrusher

Tula Radul was born in the Imperial Land to pirates in the Three Cities. She grew up being more familiar with swinging on a mast than walking on land. Nevertheless, when she was rescued from a hostage situation between three pirate companies by Ogden Faithfulrest, Aldro Shieldcrusher, and Uta Salacious, she decided to follow them. She was especially enamored of Uta, seeing a strong female grey elf role model, something she had lacked most of her life. She adventured with the group until the decision to disband.

Tula returned to the Three Cities to find them in chaos. Between constant attacks by a rising force of giants from the Wastelands, and the yuan-ti hiring Sim pirates to besiege them, the disorganized pirates of the coast were losing the battle to survive. Tula tracked down the toughest pirate captain she could find, a minotaur named Mandor. She defeated him and earned his respect and the admiration of the pirates. She took control of the Red Terror and used her own wealth to enhance it. Mandor offered to be her first mate, and eventually best friend and lover. She led the pirates into forming companies to combat the forces surrounding them, and is regarded as the unofficial leader of the Three Cities.

During the Eternal Day, Keleris Nightstalker, a devoted of Xoac, invaded the country with the intention of creating a bastion of worship to Xoac on the mainland. His army has continually been denied this goal, however, first by the pirates, led by Tula, and by the mountain-folk, who have responded to the call of the Jester, a mysterious being who appeared out of the mountains. They have repelled Keleris’s attacks enough that he has set up a border siege of the country on the edge of Egremont. He was also distracted when he realized that General Blight’s army was in a perfect position to attack him and so he directed part of his army to vex the giant army.

During the Eternal Day, an army from Ward Cove attempted to attack the eastern seaboard, successfully invading Icos and Ihaka, and making plans to take out the Land of Silk as well.  They were defeated by resistance from the pirates of the Three Cities led by Tula, an allied force of shi and Calim forces, and a group of warriors assisted by Kith rebels.

There were originally only three sub-regions; the Three Cities, the Blackrock Mountains (mountain villages), and the Devastated Plains. In 2 SR, the mysterious forces teamed up with the Isle of Slaves to mount a full-scale assault on Threy, devastating many yuan-ti powerbases. Afterward, the proud barbarians of the Isle considered themselves part of the Imperial Land, led by their barbarian leader Geron Blaxe.

There are dozens of pirate towns along the coast of the peninsula. They are almost always “governed” by either the strongest or smartest groups or individuals, have almost no law except those given by the rulers, and very little in the way of safety provided. The only law the pirate towns will actually agree on is that Tula’s word is as good as gold. The pirate towns are actually so scattered that few outsiders know how they are grouped into “Three Cities”, but the pirates know.

Tula has a daughter, Mala, who for a time served under her on her ship, but the girl was too flighty to stay in any spot for too long. Tula loves her daughter and wants only the best for her, but has reluctantly acknowledged to close associates that she does not feel Mala is a good person and blames herself. The girl’s father is unknown, and Tula will guard that secret to the end of her days, but it is whispered that Mala bears a striking resemblance to the leader of the Isle barbarians, Geron.
