Brief Description: Hiatea is a daughter of Annam. Annam originally preferred sons over daughters, and used magic to ensure the gender of his offspring was male. Hiatea’s unknown mother hid her pregnancy from Annam and had her daughter raised by firbolgs so that Annam would never learn of her existence. When she came of age, a messenger was sent from her mother’s deathbed to tell Hiatea of her true parentage. Hiatea proved herself with a series of daring feats, cumulating in an epic battle with a great monster, sometimes named as a Lernaean hydra with fifty heads and sometimes as the tarrasque. She brought a trophy of her kill to her father, who recognized her valor and worth, accepting her as one of his own offspring.

Hiatea’s siblings or half-siblings include Stronmaus, Skoraus StonebonesSurtrThrym, Skadi, and Diancastra. She was originally promised in marriage to Surtr, but after learning of her half-brother’s ferocious tempers and evil disposition, rejected the fire giant deity and fled to Stronmaus, who protected her from his wrath. She and Skadi have developed a close friendship which led to the latter also leaving her husband Thrym. Hiatea’s closest relationship is with her eldest sibling, Stronmaus; he was the first to welcome her into the Jacha upon her acknowledgment by Annam and the one with whom she spends the most time. They view each other as equals, and both share the regency of the Jacha in the All-Father’s absence. As with any sibling relationship, their normally good-natured rivalry and teasing can lead to anger and sore feelings, but it never lasts long, especially with Stronmaus’s typical sunny disposition. The Huntress also holds a deep affection for her younger sister Diancastra, although she often finds herself exasperated at the latter’s antics. She works the hardest at trying to get her brother Skoraeus to end his introversion.

Because of her patronage of the wood giants, she has begun to develop real friendships with some of the elven deities, notably Solonor Rallathil, whom she often engages with in archery contests and has been linked with romantically. She has been seen at Bastra‘s hunts and parties as well.

Avatar: Hiatea appears as a tanned, lithe, long-legged giantess wearing leather armor. Her long red-gold hair is tied back into a single braid, and her large brown-hazel eyes exude both motherly caring and a hunter’s cunning. She always carries a spear, a long bow, and an everfull quiver of arrows. She is sometimes said to have used her spear to slay an enormous hydra, preventing its heads from regenerating by cauterizing them with fire. She is strong, confident, and an exceptional hunter.

Dogma: Nature is both creator and destroyer. Admitting defeat is the worst shame a giant can bear. Still, some prices are too high to pay even for victory, for your goddess is a goddess with tendencies toward good.
